About The Artwork

A smaller hand painted multiple version of my larger Barn & Silo. I wanted to make a series of smaller multiples for people who may not have the wall space or the budget to buy a larger painting. A lower barrier to a fine art purchase you can love and pass down. Several years ago, when I decided to get serious about painting, I took an immersive seminar taught by Kevin McPherson in the beautiful countryside of Maryland. Although Kevin is known for his loose, impressionistic painting style, the biggest lesson I learned from him was to work hard to create a new voice and to push the limits of both illustration and abstraction. This piece, which I have re-painted and honed about 5 times was born out of a sketch from that trip and that experience. In one short weekend, I learned that shadows can be purple and outdoor paintings can be forged into cutting edge, modern art.

Shipping & Returns

Upstate NY painter, Todd Koelmel enjoys a practice that allows a back & forth flow between digital and analog art. His graphic style and use of hard edges lends itself to simplification – a boiling down that’s both nostalgic and modern. “Before professionally painting, I spent a chunk of my early career in the fight to slow climate change. Now my focus lies on visually representing a deep love for the environment, as well as documenting contemporary life in a style that resonates with young minded people - and pays respect to the lineage of art history.” Todd began showing his work in 2018 and is grateful for a growing group of collectors across North America and Europe. Work begins in the digital realm where the artist can balance design and tweak colors with absolute freedom. With intricate masking and complex stencils, Todd converts his digital images into large, handmade oil paintings. The integration of digital tools into a traditional art practice helps to present a fresh and modern style that anyone who grew up on cartoons can relate to. Subject matter ranges widely from bucolic Hudson Valley landscapes, to abstract sunsets, and on to pop culture satire & iconography.
