From my original Instagram post @CarrazedoArt : The "Banana Phone" is the cornerstone of the "Dangerous Monkey" series. I decided to revisit it with a somewhat less somber tone than the first piece, as well as testing the evolution of my skills, since it's a bit difficult painting it - especially the dialer part. There are many interpretations for this work and here I will paint one of them. Its symbolism simultaneously evokes an ultra-connected present in technological terms, yet disconnected from the reality/human condition in the current historical period. The fact that the telephone is never on the hook amplifies the idea that we are no longer able or interested to face conversations - often extremely necessary - with full attention and the desire to seek an agreement in case of conflict. It's easier to virtually "delete" whatever bothers us. Just look at how many people we "talk" simultaneously through Whatsapp and Instagrams apps, but for the most part in a very shallow way. It is not a judgment in itself, just an observation. Anything that seems to be a little stronger for the soul and that touches us more deeply, somehow frightens us. It then becomes preferable for things to remain on the surface, and perhaps even inaccessible. This also implies the idea of pushing many of our problems forward indefinitely, until they one day become irreversible, whether between family members, couples, or even about attitudes to be taken in the context of social/humanitarian and ecological crises. Banana - with its countless symbolisms that can range from chaos to creativity - is properly, and in a way even well accommodated, on the hook. Therefore, we can imagine that even as we push problems, chaos is dammed, as this has been the norm in conversations in a world where creativity begins to be used no longer to solve problems, but to create many others and sweep so many others under the rug. In a way the Banana Phone idea became almost prophetic of this period when it first emerged in early 2020 This is just one of the interpretations, I'll talk more later on - but not all! Eric
