This is a portrait of James Baldwin; writer, playwright, poet and social activists. Baldwin's works explore the intracities of masculinity, sexuality and race. This portrait of Baldwin was painted over a copy of his original manuscript for "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and a poster for the film "I Am Not Your Negro". The film was produced in 2016 from his notes and writings and is available free on youtube. BALDWIN 3 is a one of a kind, original work of art. It is produced using India ink and acrylic paint on 5 mil archival grade mylar. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. This painting will be shipped in a tube. The artwork is done on laminated architectural drafting mylar. It does not have to be stretched like canvas or watercolor paper and is very easy to mount on any type of board: plywood, masonite, foamboard, etc. I include simple mounting instructions with each piece that I sell. You can see these instructions at the “me at work” section of my shop. I include a hanging strip and a drywall hanging device. Everything that you need to mount your painting except the board.

I am an architect by education, and profession. I have practiced architecture for over three decades. A good deal of my experience as an artist developed from doing architectural plans and illustrations. In addition to my architectural work, I have always enjoyed producing works of "visual art". It has provided a wonderful counterpoint to the precise work involved in architectural drawings: the highly precise vs. the "free and spontaneous". I still work with the same media that I have used in architectural work: India ink, graphite pencil and acrylic paint on archival quality mylar film. I like for my work to show either emotion or action.... Occasionally both. Emotion is usually captured in a close-up portrait or perhaps full figure drawings. Action is depicted in dance or sporting events. Other than that, I don't have any deep philosophical ideas about my art except that I want to produce works that people will enjoy and be proud to have hanging on their walls.
