About The Artwork

An original acrylic painting on canvas. Framed and Ready to Hang. The bespoke wood frame is painted a soft white to complement the colours in the artwork. This painting has just been exhibited in London at The Mall Galleries with the SWA. This is inspired by a recent visit to Monet’s garden in Giverny. I had never been there before and the autumn colours of the shrubs and late summer flowers surrounding the pond itself were extremely lovely. Of course, everyone thinks immediately of those famous water lilies because Monet himself painted them so wonderfully. But at this time of year they have long finished leaving simple round flat leaves on the surface of the water. Instead the garden luxuriates in its shrubs and perennials with their autumnal riot of pinks oranges and reds. So here is my painting taking some of those rich colours as a starting point. The pond is there but I felt it acted as a foil for the texture as well as the hues of the land based plants now. And the sky added its own soft light colour to complement the whole. I very much enjoyed painting it.

www.chrissiehavers.com Represented by Cambridge Contemporary Art. The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
