About The Artwork
This painting is part of the series "Around the World". The central symbol in the painting represents the waves of the sea. I am traveling the world by ship. The shape is round, I always come back. The painting has clear brushstrokes but also transparent layers that partially obscure underlying layers. Working with transparent layers is characteristic of my work. A part of the painting on the far right has been left unpainted. Here the natural color of the linen is visible and traces of pencil lines. The linen is protected by a transparent protective layer.

Kees Schouten, 1961, Netherlands. I graduated ArtSchool in 1984 as a painter and printmaker. I was awarded by The Dutch Art Society in 1987 (for painting). First showed photoworks in 1995. From 2010 to 2017 i only made photoworks, still lifes. In 2017 i started to make collages and prints again after quite a few years. In 2022 i had a large studio built in the corner of my garden. Since then i am painting again. I am Teaching Photography at Graphic Design College, Utrecht (NL).
