About The Artwork
This painting is part of the series "Around the World". The central symbol in the painting represents the waves of the sea. I am traveling the world by ship. The shape is round, I always come back. The painting has clear brushstrokes but also transparent layers that partially obscure underlying layers. Working with transparent layers is characteristic of my work. This is a study for a larger painting. Although this is a study, top quality oil paint has been used. The canvas is stretched on a lightweight frame.

Kees Schouten, 1961, Netherlands. I graduated ArtSchool in 1984 as a painter and printmaker. I was awarded by The Dutch Art Society in 1987 (for painting). First showed photoworks in 1995. From 2010 to 2017 i only made photoworks, still lifes. In 2017 i started to make collages and prints again after quite a few years. In 2022 i had a large studio built in the corner of my garden. Since then i am painting again. I am Teaching Photography at Graphic Design College, Utrecht (NL).
