About The Artwork

The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said "the only constant is change." I am originally from the Deep South, where armadillos and fire ants are common. As temperatures rise across the planet, those heat-loving animals have made their way northward and are now frequently seen around my new hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. I recently had an interesting conversation with a stranger about these non-native species—armadillos can dig up roots of indigenous trees and do great harm to them...but they also eat fire ants. It got me thinking about the nature of change, and balancing forces, and I began to wonder—at what point do we stop fighting for the Familiar Old Ways, and when do we lean into the Great Unknown and What Comes Next? All of my work is created using high quality paints and mediums. This painting is sealed with a UV protective matte acrylic varnish, gallery-wrapped with black hand-painted edges, wired and ready to hang.
