2024 number 2 Painting

We live near the Oosterschelde, which is an estuary to the North Sea. On holidays, we go see, feel and walk along other tides. We just love the tide, the flood. Every time the flow brings you different moods, always enchanting. Whether there's rain or sunshine, heavy clouds or a clear blue sky, the waves will wash you clean, give you comfort and make way for something fresh and new. We - as a couple - work on all paintings together. We are inspired by nature and life in general: whatever makes a positive impact will sooner or later be part of our work. Not everything can be explained. Sometimes it is better to leave a meaning to the spectator and let the imagination take over. We encourage you to feel the work, rather than to 'observe' it. This is, of course, best done live! Because internet is not the best place to encounter the spirit of our paintings, we provide several details, so you might get the glimpse of what the painting is all about. As all our mutual paintings this work contains a lot of layers that together provide a relief, a special structure across the whole surface. Because of the layered nature, we always work on several paintings at the same time. This one is the second of a series of (for now) three. Making this work took about 2 months, including drying time in between stages. We decided not to frame the work: that would feel restrictive. The sides however are painted in one colour. It is signed by the both of us and ready to hang. The painting itself weighs 13,5 kilo.
