About The Artwork

Painting of 2 Trees in a park setting. Inspired by Magritte and his habit of depicting conflict in the landscape between foreground and sky light levels (Night and Day). Here i have tried to create an air of ambiguity whereby the trees in the foreground appear lit by an intense invisible sun. Paint wise i have included a unique metallic oil paint in the foliage of the trees which creates an incredibly vivid effect. Paint ranges from thick 'impasto' layers to thin washes. Painted on 9 oz cotton canvas stretched over hand built 'gallery style' deep edged wooden frame. Edges of the work will be white with brass eyelits to rear and cord supplied so will be completely ready to hang once unwrapped .... I have included some in room framed examples to give you an idea of what the work would look like if you wished to have it framed. Painting will come pre varnished and signed on the rear along with a certificate of authenticity. It will be carefully packaged (rest assured i have sent many paintings around the world and have gained extensive experience in correct packing techniques!).

Simon Jones was born in Grimsby, England. Once the second largest fishing port of its kind in the world, Grimsby sits directly on the North East coast fringed by what is known as 'The Lincolnshire Wolds'. He studied Fine Art on a Foundation Course at Grimsby Art College back in the late 70's and went on to study at Degree Level at Kingston Polytechnic London and later at Hull University gaining a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art. He has lived and worked in Lincolnshire most of his life and feels a close connection with its unique landscape. "My passion is Oil Painting primarily my local Landscape (Lincolnshire Wolds). I have lived all my life in and around this landscape and use it as an inexhaustible and inspiring material for my painting. I have a deep love of Fine Art stretching back over 40 years now. Whenever I get the chance I take the opportunity to visit Art Exhibitions and Galleries both home and abroad. I endeavour to imbue my landscapes with mood and melancholy saturating the canvas with varying layers of paint in order to convey tone and texture in what I see. Remember: Look now while life lasts ...
