About The Artwork

If you could take a look inside everything I am, mind, body and soul, you would see the images and feel the emotions that I put onto the canvas. My art is a true example of who I was and what I was feeling during the days any one piece was created. Those factors determine the images and colors that are used, and is why many of my pieces are multi –layered, because they resemble the multi-layered, chaotic thought process of images and thoughts that call my mind their home. Vito is autistic, and when he was a child he was speech delayed, and teachers used a comic strip style grid to help Vito learn about emotions and feelings, and to express himself they encouraged him to draw in a grid fashion. He still uses grids often in his work, each grid containing some little treasure of information, together forming a story of perhaps a silent struggle the artist is dealing with, while the grids work to keep each tidbit of worry a little contained, a little more manageable. In this piece Vito took many of his worries and organized them into a colorful array of grids and images-bringing a hopeful attitude to manage some daily stress.

Vito Bonanno is a CT/New York based internationally collected artist, who brings his mix of hyper-focused autism inspired aesthetic, blending street art, pop culture and dreams from his unfiltered world to come alive on the canvas. Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, which fuels this hybrid dream-state aesthetic, where conceptual and abstract-expressionism styles collide to form enchanting and powerful results. Image and concept driven and embedded in his personal philosophy, his art contains the essence of his life, feelings, thoughts, fears and dreams, coupled around objects or topics that "get stuck in his head", including traffic lights, graffiti, ceiling fans, pop culture, buildings, people-real and imagined, and current world events. Creating art is his therapy, love, release and emotional rescue.
