Three figures, cut from various hardwoods to denote race, instigate a refection on how the conditions and assault of colonialism, patriarchy and the implicit demands of propriety taint the substrate of young women. These nefarious conditions shape young women's very existence and with the sheer force of its purchase spin women's trajectory through life. This unique work is the 3rd panel in the series 'We Women', which walks through the lifespan of archetypical women. The journey begins with the first panel denoting the vitality and exuberance of young women before they are shaped by cultural dictates. The story continues though the varied complexities of coming of age in western culture. The final panel of 'We Women' celebrates mature individuals who have made it through the journey triumphant, retaining or regaining their birthright; owning their autonomy, desires and power.
