About The Artwork

The forest before me crammed with the unfamiliar too dark too wild too concealed what earth will that lethargic leaf finally mask? what snake awaits me behind that bush? what branch will snap and strike me dead? it makes me too full too feral too unknown Calm… I will order and within my careless reconstruction re-discover the flattened chaos Inspired by Robert Frost’s ‘The Road Not Taken’, this artwork explores the reality of the human condition. The forest, too wild and unfathomable, will be ordered by each person individually to create a more manageable and yet flattened work. This is the refection we choose to study, instead of understanding the complexities around us.

Tanya Mehta is a new media artist who has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Born in Bombay in 1988, Tanya Mehta completed her MA in Goldsmiths (London) in Photography (The Image and Electronic Arts). She works with new mixed media, photographing everyday objects and turning them into alternate realities through collage and digital painting. Her production sees her working closely with fine art printmaking and experimenting with various modern technologies – such as lenticular prints and animated light boxes – to add movement, depth and an all-round dynamism. Her work explores the gaps between our different constructions of knowledge – philosophy, art, science, the metaphysical – and finds, in those gaps, bridges. She hopes to take the audience over those bridges to move to the singular reality or truth that exists for all of us. The key is the imagination.
