Persian Carpet( Censorship is Beautiful!) Installation

• “Censorship is beautiful!(A Persian Carpet)”, 2010-2011 It also originates from my initial concept and here I aim to make a Persian carpet on which people could walk. I glue the papers on pieces of fabric. I sew on the printed photos from my virtual life with different threads. I use these colorful threads to connect some images to each other, to add to them, to cover them and finally to censor some parts of taboos such as religious taboos (nudes, hair etc) and political news about opposition in Iran by sewing Persian patterns on them. I also censor some of these pieces myself to make them appropriate to be shown in Iran, as if I am the censorship department myself (what citizens are in Iran) One question is that: why these Persian patterns were created? The answer is because of Censorship and Taboos caused by religion and conventions!!! Symbols and Patterns replaced direct figurative arts. Artists in censorship-based societies have to create abstraction to stay creative and even critical. The other question is that: Why censorship is still continuing and has expanded to all angles of our lives as Iranians?!!!! Thirdly, this work is a documentary of the last 2 years news of my very private life, my country and the world! Then I sew all these small pieces to each other and also I sew a continuous Persian pattern on the marginal pieces with green threads (Symbol of Freedom for Iranians!). I also ask my foreign friend to cooperate on sewing these patterns; As if they put themselves in my shoes! The fabric has the function of a Persian carpet referring to my identity as an Iranian young identity but this time with far different obsessions compared with Persian conventions and traditions.
