Censorship is beautiful! ( Persian Carpet ) Installation

Detailed Images of the work. This project is an installation. The fabric on which the photos are sewed is in the size of a carpet and visitors should walk on it with their bare feet. Then, they can sit down and go in to details of the photos. The fabric has the function of a Persian carpet referring to my identity as an Iranian young Identity but here with far different obsessions compared with Persian conventions and traditions. I glue the papers on pieces of fabric. I sew on the printed photos from my virtual life with different threads. I use these colorful threads to censor some parts of this news by sewing Persian patterns on them. One question is that: why these Persian patterns were created? Because of Censorship!!! Symbols and Patterns replaced direct figurative arts! The other question is that: Why censorship is still continuing and has expanded to all angles of our lives as Iranians?!!!! Thirdly, this work is a documentary of the last 2 years news of my very private life, my country and the world! I sew all these small pieces to each other and also I sew a continuous Persian pattern on the marginal pieces with green threads (Symbol of Freedom for Iranians!). I also ask my foreign friend to cooperate on sewing these patterns; As if they put themselves in my shoes! “Censorship is beautiful! “. The reason is that I believe in societies that are limited and filtered due to conventions or religion, art forms change to patterns and abstraction. Although some of these forms might have Symbolic meanings, Persian patterns might just be free of any meanings but eye catching and beautiful! In other words, “taboos” led to some abstract patterns such as patterns that we see on Persian carpets or Islamic architecture. Persian patterns and textures on these carpets are beautiful, aren’t they?!!! I use these patterns to hide some political news from my country! I also sew these patterns on some very private parts of my virtual life! You could hardly see behind these patterns although you might find out a bit about what is censored!!!
