About The Artwork
This two sided triptych started when Kato Catling asked me to take a photo of him naked , reaching up to a large Bryophyllum plant.This plant reproduces by growing small plants on the edges of its leaves.These are identical to the parent and so in some way the plant is immortal. I created two canvases which are collaged digital prints on tissue over and under painted.One is the original naked figure and the other is me, also naked and holding our cat.The cat is not conscious of mortality.There is a dolls house which has been appropriated and painted and it contains miniatured versions of our artwork. On the reverse side of each screen are poems and photographs by Kato. There is also a seven ft high Bryophyllum plant. The subjects of this auto-biographical piece are ageing and mortality.

Born Coulsdon UK. Work often starts from a photo or drawing that has an affective meaning for me. Underlying the perception is a combination of fear and pleasure as the subjects are my family or myself caught in a moment of time. I was seeing these moments as potential memories even when they were the 'now'.The outcomes are prints, mainly etchings ,or paintings with water often the theme. My digital work is made using my drawings from life and layering many times to create a new, organic-seeming image. Recent work takes the theme of ageing.One series alludes to Lucas Cranach's 'Fountain of Youth' The latest to the suddeness and unexpectedness of one's departure. all treated with degree of dark humour.
