About The Artwork

This drawing is part of the series "Understanding the Relative Importance of Things" - Intimate Paradigm This project intends to approach, reflect and question the reasons of the different of the individual perspectives in the apprehension of the facts; Social, philosophical, political, religious, among others. The "culture element" is the basis of the "moulding" of ideas, concepts and rules in human experience - from the individual to the social. But what are the others elements that intervene in this complex process? This work intends to explore alternative ideas. In this way, the creation of images starts from the idea of pattern, and it is through the symbolic construction of four paradigms that the theme of "relativity" is approached: The Intimate Paradigm-addresses the relationship between the facts and the individual's inner self. This one is immaterial and composed of memories nets; of experiences, dreams, and other "realities"It is something personal, non-transferable and unique. Any type of relationship with the outside is "sieved " in order to not degrade the intimate of the individual.  "...we rip, we hide, we forget, and we " stitch and glue " the memories that we have. " The key words of this pattern are, essence, fragility, and the invisible.

I am born in Lisbon in 1960 and I live and work in Palmela. My academic formation, was decisive for my work as a visual artist, once it gave me a better understanding of Space and its mutation in Time, as well as the desire for exploration and experimentation of new materials, I started to make exhibitions as a painter in 96. Over the years, I developed my work through visual and written research on contemporary art. In 2011, I abandoned painting, and I started to investigate human perception of visual elements, within the transparent bi dimensional supports. Now I'm looking for their relationship in sculpture. The main influences in my work, come from observation of nature ( mainly the human nature), the reading of philosophical authors, and a special friendship, with the painter Fernando Calhau. This association of factors in conjunction with intuition and experience, has transforme my first contents of work, in poetic thoughts of philosophical nature, formalize more and more in the sum of many subtractions.
