About The Artwork
I was inspired by a family of black and white cobs (horses) that live in the fields nearby my house in Scotland. Every day I am aware of them and their family dynamics. Every year I see new babies bringing their fresh personalities to the group and the mothers keeping a strict check on them and their siblings. In an aesthetic sense I am caught by the patterns of black and white in their coats as they unconsciously pose in their field. This drawing attempts to capture their bonding as well as the beautiful shapes and patterns that they create. I have made many studies of this subject, including several paintings, and want to go into a more abstract statement which expresses the essence of the group. This drawing is part of that process.

I have been an artist all my life. I was brought up in a London family of fine art and antique dealers who taught me about art and encouraged my creativity from an early age. I love traditional drawing and painting but I also like to experiment and push my art into new abstract forms. I have studied both classical and conceptual art at art institutions and in masterclasses with established figurative and abstract artists. I am now finding my own voice towards abstraction. Horses are a constant inspiration and catalyst for me. As for many artists, their sculptural form and beauty is greatly compelling, and for me horses symbolise something that is potent and unspoken. I am reaching for a contemporary equestrian art that shows the private nature of the animal as well as the human passion for this wonderful creature.
