About The Artwork
Although I am not Catholic, I admire Pope Francis as a genuinely caring individual. He seems to exude serenity, and I hope I captured at least some of it in this portrait. I love to draw with Sennelier soft pastels on suedeboard. It can be challenging, because it's a once-and-done kind of process. The board is unforgiving, so I don't layer and blend. I am also a calligrapher, so the lettering is integral to the composition.
