James Marie is a self-taught, American figurative artist, currently living in the United States. She works primarily in charcoal, with subjects ranging from emotionally charged female nudes to melancholy landscapes. Her use of partially defined features, and a signature frenzy of energetic strokes and markings, create a dramatic sense not only of motion, but also of mood. Her drawings explore themes of power, sex, depression, shame, etc.
