This reductive ink on paper series is inspired by my travels. As an artist with much curiosity about the world I journey to unfamiliar places that challenge my perceptions, expand my ideas and ultimately inform my life and my work. This art was inspired by my excursion to the Antarctic—a remote place of snow, ice, big skies and oceans—scenic beauty that is sometimes dramatic, sometimes soft as cashmere. My work reflects the ‘end of the Earth’ feeling I had when I was there. Not a scary feeling but one of awe. I wanted this work to be elegant to convey the primal purity of what I experienced. I am influenced, inspired and affected by the atmosphere around me—the collective energy in a room, the persona of a country where I’m traveling or living or the natural world that surrounds me. The Antarctic fulfilled me on many levels but I wanted to pare this work down to the essence of that peninsula.
