About The Artwork

This work is a continuation from the 'Spirit of Place' artworks which are torn posters derived from a specific place. 'Wrecked Surface' is from all over and everything is on a slightly larger scale and simply themed in blue and white with larger lacerated pieces of ripped posters. In putting this piece together. it is also making a statement about the transient nature of advertising. These rips reveal glimpses of copy and headlines once calculated to grab the viewer's attention and thereafter covered over with layer upon layer. However, in making this artwork it its shattered and torn state it is now revealed in its own permanence. Suspended in this state indefinitely it now takes on its own surface energy and dynamic beauty.
