Voi Siete Qui (You Are Here) Collage

Visiting innumerable departure lounges, train stations, museums and public arenas I became fascinated by the maps and floor plans shown in the free leaflets available. 'Voi Siete Qui' (in Italy) interested me as it is a geographic reference and I wondered then how it might look if translated in meaning to a state of mind. Often graphically beautiful, these floor plans and diagrams once cut up into the coloured shapes can form a bizarre, multi-coloured texture which visually describes perfectly the world I live in. Confusing, chaotic, random and often bewildering, however at the centre of it can be calm. A centered state where all around the noise can disappear. Where I aim to be. The patterning and rhythm of the coloured diagrams points to the central wording. Often fractured and broken they all point to the one true fact that you are really only in one place, in one moment despite the mind saying otherwise. This is the beginning of a series of such collages based on the places I have been.
