Ha Long Rain Collage

It is said that all life on earth is created from the matter of long-dead stars. This abstract landscape is composed of a layered paper collage motif floating on a painterly canvas background. The fungi-mountain-cloud-ghost-warrior-like form is composed of custom hand-marbled designs and drippy, leggy tendrils. The title references a memorable day I spent drifting on a boat through the mist of Ha Long Bay. The mid-century inspired color palette includes green, gold and gray tones set against a warm and creamy background. Gold leaf spore-like details reference the star matter that permeates everything. The exposed woodgrain background is composed of reclaimed 1/4" birch plywood. This painting is mounted inside a primitive and rustic hand-made pine frame. Encaustic art involves fusing heated beeswax and damar resin on the surface of the substrate.
