The crystal in this work is the image of the philosopher's stone, a mythical alchemical substance capable of turning base metals such as mercury into gold or silver. It is also called the elixir of life, useful for rejuvenation and for achieving immortality. For many centuries it was the most sought goal in alchemy. How the author makes her collages: all the details are pre-drawn, cut, and composited, after which she adds more painting on top of the all layers.
