The Mycenae series

The Mycenae series is an abstract body of work on unstretched (loose) canvas, searching for larger scales, textural, sweeping and experimental mark making, and a free and gestural painting language. The series was conceived during the pandemic, and it relates to a longing for freedom and space which reality did not allow. As in the rest of my abstract practice, colour and composition are key concerns in the creation of these pieces. I mix colour very carefully, and often mix the oil paint with impasto mediums and coarse marble dust (ground down marble) to give the paint extra body and consistency. Exploring the expressive possibilities of the painting medium is very important to me.
