Inspired by Caravaggio
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio is known for his realistic observation of the human condition and use of chiaroscuro, a highly contrasted lighting technique. His works, including Judith Beheading Holofernes (1599) and The Calling of St Matthew (1600) had a lasting influence on Baroque painting. Contemporary artists like Oriol Angrill Jordà and Jarek Puczel share a similar interest in this style.
