Paperworks
My paperwork is made up of pieces of paper torn by hand. The paper’s natural edge is my handwriting.
In my work I am striving for a particular kind of depth. When I found I could not achieve this sense of depth within the limitations of painting, I began exploring the potential of paper. Its flexibility offers structural opportunities that allow me to work in a way in which the process and its ends are brought closer less artificially and more directly.
The paper grids are placed 4 to 5 cm (about 2") off the wall. In this way light can get at the work from all sides, projecting shadows
on the wall. The work’s reverse is painted in a bright colour, which reflects strongly on the wall and follows the work’s shadow in colour.
