Phaedrus & The Allegroy of The Cave
These paintings are visual musings on the ancient Greek philosopher's theories of love (philia), eros, lust and possession; played out in Plato's desire for a higher level of understanding of the self, the other and the universe. The Allegory of The Cave is a philosophical metaphor for truth, from imagination, illusion toward experience and knowledge. I have chosen both narratives in combination, as I wish to explore the concept and understanding of love, as intertwined with or parallel to the illusion, imagination and experience that love manifests toward the journey of truth.
