Asymmetry

In these series I am exploring the relationship between pictorial conventions and the material qualities that make it a painting. With an emphasis on process and materials, I start the canvas with a storm of colors, random colors that talk to me in the moment, employing the Surrealist technique of Automatism. The base of the pieces are characterized by layers of color superimposed on thick brushstrokes, with divided patterns. Research about structure and tactility lead to experiments with mixed media such as wool, rust, foam, resin or fabric. I execute and evolve the full work on the canvas playing with geometry, formalism and texture, using abstraction as an element of a larger ambition.
