Framed Mixed Media

What I am exploring in this collection is, almost exclusively, painting faces using a wide variety of media. I work on the "edge," taking the two-dimensional format and pushing its limits and playing with people's expectations of those limits. To keep the rich texture that is created available to the viewer, the frame is incorporated into the artwork itself. The frame is not something that is added later and is external to the piece. My aim is to create a complete piece of art that remains open to the viewer who then has the freedom to continue to enjoy the texture and to be able to witness and revisit the steps in the creative process. The work remains a part of the living world; organic and not sealed and set inside a time capsule.
