The Valencia series

The Valencia series of paintings and drawings is inspired by my home town of Valencia, in Eastern Spain, and has been created mainly on location there. Even though some pieces have been produced or completed in my usual working environment in London, the connection to the source material and the creative impulse to work on the series is always strongest when I'm in my home town. As an artist I often create work in response to my surroundings, be it a landscape or a cityscape or a detail of the urban environment that interests me. Rather than trying to reproduce what I see, these pieces work in the spirit of capricci or fantasies in which I attempt to capture something about the atmosphere or the special 'feel' of the place.
