While studying architecture in the 80’s in my hometown, Lima, Perú, I started to work part time in a local newspaper as a journalist covering subjects related to the youth. Many of the articles had to be documented with photographs which made me take a camera and do my first pictures. In 1985 I moved to London and started working in portraiture and fashion publishing in magazines such as ID, Vogue and Elle. As a photojournalist I have covered subjects such as the Kosovo War. In 2013 I presented an exhibition and book, ’Mírame Lima’, a series of 50 family portraits aiming to reflect the cultural, ethnical, religious diversities present in the Peruvian capital. In 2014, I’ve deepen my research in photography as an art form working with architectural collages, nudes and light movement. My first experiments in motion photography got selected to be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery. In 2017, I presented a new book with the same team of ‘Mírame Lima’: ‘Mírame España’ related to the big changes of Spanish society after Franco’s death. My work has been exposed in museums and galleries and has been awarded in competitions such as PDN, International Photography Awards (IPA), Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3). Also, my work has been selected for exhibition in places such as the National Portrait Gallery of London. I’m currently engaged in Fine Arts projects. I do have another profile page with my works with Art Director David Tortora: www.saatchiart.com/tortora_travezan www.jaimetravezan.com
