This Little Daughter of Yours, a phrase Sri Anandamayi Ma would often use to refer to herself, is a mixed media work of Sri Anandamayi Ma. Mataji is in a thoughtful mood, standing in a restful pose, and adorned with celebratory garlands. The halo of flames around Mataji's head symbolizes manifestations of Consciousness. Sri Anandamayi Ma left her body in 1982, several months after I was born, so I've never had an opportunity to receive her darshan (which roughly translates as a viewing of a holy person, face-to-face). That said, studying photographs of Mataji has invited her Presence into my daily life. I've found that the process of drawing her has allowed me to spend "time" with her. The experience has brought a seeming sense of vitality to the representation of her physical form. It's been a gift to create. I trust the energy of the piece will serve as a reminder of her loving Presence to all those who encounter it. As recounted in Alexander Lipski's The Essential Sri Anandamayi Ma: Life and Teachings of a 20th Century Indian Saint, Mataji once said, "Jagat (world) means ceaseless movement, and obviously there can be no rest in movement. How could there be peace in perpetual coming and going? Peace reigns where no coming exists and no going, no melting, and no burning. Reverse your course, advance towards Him--then there will be hope for peace." This mixed media work on paper comes unmatted, unframed, and ready for your personal decorative touches.
