Fujicolor Crystal Archive Type DPII / 220 grams Once after breakfast, when I looked at my plate and studied the crumbs, I decided to take a picture of it. That was early 2020. I got the idea to take a picture of the plate every day after breakfast, as a kind of mild friend in existence. Because 2020 was a turbulent year in several respects, I continued the plan to convert all the plates I photographed that year into a bigger picture. It kept me strong, everyday when I finished breakfast (normally just toast) and my mind started thinking about my problems, the image of the plate in front of me pulled me out of there and I was happy to made the picture again, giving hope to the future. I can see for myself from the plates where I was at that time. North-northwest is the start and then turning clockwise, the last sign is right in the middle. Because I had to move and couldn't find a house right away, I lived in several places that year. The project has given me peace of mind, something to hold on to in those fierce times of corona and private worries.

I was raised in a town called Groningen and became involved with photography during my study Dutch Language and Literature. My father gave me a camera (Fuji) for my 16th birthday. My digital artwork is based on photography. I try to create new forms that originate from ordinary, sometimes even unnoticed objects: fire escapes, rusty containers, details of buildings. It's nice to give meaning to things that had little or no meaning before. Sometimes it's like giving life to dead objects. The outcome of a collage is never certain, they continue to surprise. And sometimes one picture is just enough.
