L. Zarei crafts wonderful, psycho-sensual magic-realist works recalling surrealism and the works of the Latin muralists. These personal cultural fables heave with imagery teeming with animals, Egyptian ankhs, human faces, vehicles of flight, religious prophets, ever-present eyes, and man-animals, twisting and turning about the visual plane, netherworlds tumbling from the psyches of beings lost in the circuitry of the minds dreamscapes. L. Zarei is a self-taught artist, an accomplished musician, and boasts a Masters in Engineering. Of his work he intones, There are no coincidences or accidents, the balance of universe is kept by the purpose that each molecule has been assigned and serves. My paintings carry messages from beyond that are intertwined with feelings of chaos and unexplainable pleasures that I pour onto my canvases.
