I am originally from Hertfordshire, but I moved to London to study my Foundation Year at Camberwell College of Art, receiving a Distinction. I continued onto Chelsea College of Art to study BA Fine Art, graduating in 2011 with First Class Honours. Since graduating, I have been working in my studio in Bermondsey. As well as being involved in shows in Orange County, USA and in Mayfair, West London I am involved with exhibitions in East and South London.

My work aims to communicate an intensity of the painted figure through pose, gesture, expression and look. The changing surfaces, materials and compositions act to heighten the figurative image in each piece. I reference film in much of my work, particularly cinema from 1930s-60s. Using people I know as models, this creates an image which juxtaposes the individuality of the sitter with more recognisable images from visual culture. A shifting dynamic is created between the individual details and the cachet of iconic images we recognise. These boundaries are added to by the similar shift between surface and material. Whilst the figures are painted thinly in oils, the backgrounds use light-reflective acrylic paints, taking the subject out of their original context and slipping them into a non-existent space of painting. … Read More
