my work :
is a mix of texture and colour
i experiment with collage and varying materials from ink and bleach to acrylic
i gather a hoard of visual information in the form of sketches or driftwood or poems or shells or sheep’s wool
anything that catches my eye
i have the hoard close to hand before i begin working
lucky morsels end up in the finished painting
i am inspired massively by my surroundings
so the focus of my work is often shetland’s peat hills
rough seas or wild flowers
more and more frequently now i use figures in my work and i find myself making up little stories about them
i have realised i enjoy the stories as much as the painting
