Suna Tüfekçibaşı was accepted to the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts Faculty. She has a Graduate Degree from Yıldız Technical University Art Design Faculty.
The artist says “Process of painting covers the artist’s relationship with the object, and the universal perception of the artist as the subject”. Her late works, that are inspired from the nature, develop a color-oriented style rich in lines that provides a perspective to observe the action process. Her paintings are satisfied with rhythmic energy, leading to an abstraction of time and place.
Until now she got 18 mix and 4 personal exhibitions. She lives and works in İstanbul.
When coming across a painting by Suna Tüfekcibasi, our attention could easily focus on the subject represented on the canvas: the sleeping bodies, the fancies Sixties dancers, the severe half-length portraits. This approach is inevitable but when we devote a closer analysis to the studies of her works, almost without realizing it, we are carried inside the picture, inside the painting itself. Only then the journey inside the art of the Istanbul painter starts.
Suna Tüfekcibasi’s journey is made of matter, colours, mixtures, nuances, backgrounds of pure colour. Thanks to it we will be able to grasp the last meaning of her paintings. Hers is a tireless practice made just by painting. Her work doesn't give up to representation and succeeds in conjugate the depicted subject with a pure pictorial research closed to the one an abstract artist would assume.
The importance of the subject represented on the canvas is all relative. Suna could paint every single moment of the daily routine, she could transfer every snapshot on the canvas. The value and the meaning of her works wouldn’t change a thing.
The meaning is there, it lies just in front of us, but its discovery is not predictable and it makes the journey more adventurous and fascinating. The meaning lies in the painting itself, in the patient application of the paint, in the joyful amazement of the colour, in the construction of a complex whole built by countless details which are repositories of the ultimate meaning of Suna’s work.
When we are completely aware of her work we are filled with a contagious sensation of joy, the same joy the artist felt spreading the colour on the canvas. We understand that every detail of the elaborate pictorial system brought the artist a feeling of pure happiness, the same happiness offered by the representation of the light in its most incredible shapes.
We are carried away in the chromatic vortex or in the exuberant dynamism of the lines. We forget the depicted subject we were looking shortly before and we don’t need to give reasons to its choice anymore. The meaning lies in the painting itself and now we are happily aware of that.
