Sonja Brussen (1974) lives and works in the charming town of Lochem (the Netherlands). For years she has been taught by Jos Klaver (lecturer at the School of the Arts in Arnhem). In addition she took additional courses, the last being the upgrade at the ArtEz.

She focuses on paintings, drawings and landscape art. Besides her daily work as an artist she is, on request, also active in organizing workshops and events. Studio visit by appointment is possible any time.

By her use of color and characteristic appearance of the characters she creates a unique atmosphere. In this way she aims to touch people or at least surprise them.
The work that still remains figurative,always invites to free interpretation.

In the last series in 2011 past and present are woven into a combination of language and image, abstract and figurative. From the chaos figures are looming. Do they search for structure or did some already found it? Every viewer will undergo the paintings in his own way and thus will give his own answers.
