What is Showdown?

Welcome to Showdown, an online competition where artists can showcase their work and be given the chance for it to be judged by internationally acclaimed artists and curators. The winner will be invited to display their art at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Kirstine Roepstorff

Matthias Weischer

Artist

Matthias Weischer was born in 1973 in Rheine, West Germany, and is a painter living in Leipzig. Weischer’s works oscillate between abstract and figurative painting. 1st Place

The winner will receive $1,000 USD

2nd Place

The runner up will receive $500 USD
The top two works will be shown at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

First Round: Curated + Community Voting

The first round consists of two parts: the community vote and the curated vote. Anyone with a valid Saatchi Online account is able to participate in the community vote. All valid entries will be randomly displayed an equal number of times during the community vote and each work will be voted on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). A total of 300 submissions will progress to the next round including:

  • 50 works with highest average community votes
  • 250 submissions selected by our professional Saatchi Online team

Second Round: Juried Voting

A jury, selected by Saatchi Online and led by Rebecca Wilson, Director of the Saatchi Gallery, London, will review the 300 semi-finalists. Of those 300:

  • 30 submissions selected by our professional jury will move on to the final round

Final Round: Judge

A judge selected by Saatchi Online will select the 1st and 2nd place winners of Showdown.

  • The top two submissions will have the opportunity to show at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
  • 1st place will receive $1,000 USD. 2nd place will receive $500 USD.
  • Art must be in the style or category specified to be eligible.
  • Art must not have been submitted to a previous Showdown or any other Saatchi Online competition.
  • Must be an original work currently for sale on the Saatchi Online website.
  • The top ten original works must be exclusively for sale on Saatchi Online for 6 months following the end of the competition.
