Adam was born in Suffolk, UK in 1987 he lives and works now in London, but travels regularly; especially to Europe's numerous culture capitals, but also to China, where he lived for a time.
My work foregoes narratives in favour of moods and themes. The story and the paint are inextricable from one another and the act of painting is the recording of these elements in the flesh of the sitter. By focusing on the esoteric as reflected in the exoteric and vice versa, my work explores the externalisation of internal struggles, not recording the ephemeral reality inhabited by the sitter. Working from primary studies, with a live sitter, from medical records, art history books, the internet and my imagination, I dissolve the forms I'm working from and build an image from slick, visceral brushwork and smeared, arbitrary knife marks. By creating an image from arbitrary marks, using visual aids as a point of reference only, and relying on a primal awareness of the paint, the final image is always of the artist.…Read More
