1963, Groessen, NL. I was born in Holland but grew up in the Irish country side. Lived there for 10 years, and returned with my family when I was nearly 17.
My works forms a continuous study and fascination for the human body in all facets and the spirit within. It is so easy to believe in a god just by studying the bone structure of an arm. The way the bones twist around one another during movement, so ingenious and so very fascinating. It is hardly comprehensible that this is a result of evolution and not conceived by a supernatural being. Small details like toes and fingers, little bones in feet and hands, everything beautifully designed and totally balanced.
I paint with fine graphite dust on paper and try to achieve with silvery grey shades the illusion of solid three-dimensional form and texture of skin. But I also find it challenging to catch a human figure in charcoal lines. By placing single black lines I try to record the roundness and movement of the body onto white paper. …Read More
