Born in 1964 at Fordingbridge in Hampshire, Richard graduated from York University 1986. In 1988 he moved to Glasgow, Scotland, becoming part of its blossoming figurative art scene. In 2010 he moved to Chichester in West Sussex.
Between 1996 and 2004 Richard executed commissioned paintings and sculptures for bars, clubs and restaurants throughout Scotland. Since then he has been working on a substantial series of paintings focusing on the relationships between people, artworks and architecture in art museums and other public buildings, works that call into question the boundary between art and reality. In these works he enjoys a creative dialogue with the art of the past. Since January 2005 works from this series have been regularly shown at galleries in Glasgow, Dublin, and London.
