I was born in Detroit, Michigan, but spent my childhood in Mexico City. My father was an artist at the Academia San Carlos where I would attend classes with him in my teenage years. I moved to New York City to go to school in 1974 and stayed to pursue an art career. I was awarded grants by the NEA, NYSCA, Jackson-Pollock, and Penny McCall foundations. I also showed at the Brooklyn Museum and various galleries. In 1997, after a devastating studio fire, I could not afford workspace in New York City. I moved upstate to the Hudson River Valley where I have been working ever since.
