Francisco Ortega, who was born in Spain and lives in London, says that “contradictions, dilemmas, and conflicts” are the subject of his works. He explores these themes in fragmented and partially distorted compositions which contain many abstract and layered elements. He is as much interested in the process of creating a painting, and in the expressive properties of paint, as he is in the finished object.
