My practice incorporates photography, video and mixed-media installation. With a focus on the residual, absence and memory, it explores subjects of place, often on the periphery, and self, as arenas for deconstruction. Drawing on spectacularity and ritual, my work examines the transformative nature of subjects. It concerns itself both with the boundary between reality and fiction and different modes of navigating a subject: forensic, social and the psychological. Through investigations I seek to represent the human condition by its imprint and as re-imagined narratives.
Wilberforce has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally including Tate Modern, Freud Museum, Open Eye Gallery, Courtauld Institute of Art, Leeds Art Gallery, Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), BFI Southbank, Stanley Picker Gallery, Van Abbemuseum and Ron Mandos.
