Paul Roux graduated in 1998 from the Michaelis School of Fine Art (University of Cape Town, South Africa). After a detour into advertising and marketing, his re-commitment to the fine arts over the last six years has seen a number of awards and solo exhibitions, as well as scholarship for further study at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. His work is represented in collections in Europe, South Africa and the US.
Based in the greater Los Angeles area, he is currently pursuing a number of residency opportunities and continuing to develop his own work.

PROJECT APOLOGY:
Project Apology is a video work in progress that involves the documentation of an undertaking to apologize, in person and as a self-appointed representative of humanity, to members of all of the non-human animal species on the planet that are being adversely affected by human activity. Obviously such a mandate includes every last living creature and, as such, presents a very tall order, the unmanageability of such an undertaking becoming a big part of its content as a piece of art - in pushing for a greater degree of acknowledgement of damage done and acceptance of the urgent need for responsible change. http://projectapology.wordpress.com
"I 'm busy being busy, here's my card..."
"I 'm busy being busy, here's my card..." is an ongoing public performance work that consists consists of me, unusually `well-dressed' in suit and tie, standing and parading around in specially identified public spaces with a bright white canvas-stretcher sign that stands 6ft tall and reads as follows:
"Privileged and emotionally indulged 30 year old white male seeks spiritual guidance and/or large handout commensurate to overdeveloped sense of importance and degree of single-mindedness with which I lust forward blindly in pursuit of material illusion. Maybe you could teach me to be grateful for what I have? But what I really want is a new BMW, until the next one hits the showroom floor. Please help. May God bless you, only if you help me?"
The original sign is impossible to read from afar, forcing interested members of the public to move closer (say roughly within 10ft/3m), thus encouraging interaction around its content. From afar, it also evokes images of Sanskrit or other ancient religious writing and thus some associations of religiosity, which serves as additional bait for some and accents the sentiment of the piece, as a satirical ode to consumer desires. … Read More
