Work
I was born in Salamina Colombia, it is small picturesque town located on the top of central mountains of the country.
The town is surrounded by tropical forest and local farms with beautiful gardens from where I had my first contact with the bright colours of the nature.
With my work I want to express emotions/feelings using the colour as the main vehicle to achieve it.
Some times I use lines in a very abstract way to draw on the canvas. However the main element of my art work is the colour with all its effects, tensions, movements and volumes it creates when it is applied on the canvas.
I work with acrylics and oil paints and some times I mix them with industrial glues to give volume to the masses of colour.
The process of my work starts by selecting the palette for the new painting.
It can be just 2 or 3 basic colours or it can be a great variety of them depending on my mode and inspiration.
Once I have decided the colours for the new work the second part of the process is deciding where over the canvas each colour is going to be applied to create exiting contrasts/toning and how I am going to integrate the colour masses to give balance, unity and harmony to the final work.
Some times before starting to paint I play around over the canvas with pieces of coloured paper to envisage the colour arrangement for my new painting.
I love music and it plays a big role when I need inspiration to start painting, that explains why some of my works have titles related to music.
The artists that most inspire me are Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, Klee and Miro. …Read More
