'Graham's response to landscape is contemplative. Like an elaborate game of chess, works evolve through time. Creation becomes a challenge as every mark is considered as the aesthetic process unravels towards sublime resolution. Graham's preoccupations are undoubtedly formal, but his technique relies on more than simply a conscious arrangement of shape and colour. Graham aims to intuitively distil the essence of his visual experience in a much more unlimited way. Landscape provides the ideal motif; unrestricted by figures or buildings, an exploration is permitted which ultimately pervades pure creation.'

"Your paintings bear scrutiny against everything you told me about your method and approach (so often people talk a good game and their work doesn't resemble its' description). They are singular and beautiful."

'Calligraphy, quality of line, mark-making, colour-relationship, proportion, perspective and aesthetics. I was trained to use classic traditional materials and I try to cut through to the essence of what matters in an image. It is a contemplative way of working.'…Read More

Education
The youngest son of a retired senior Scotland Yard detective. Creatively and richly influenced from childhood with a privileged education. Treble soloist, singing and recording in all the major cathedrals of northern France, including Chartres, Rheims, Laon, Notre Dame Paris and the Palace of Fontainbleau. After his degree in architecture Graham went to art college. He has always painted and is classically trained. His most recent project was as the good criminal, crucified on a cross next to Jesus, 8m above Brighton seafront between the Hilton hotel and the old pier, Brighton's first Passion Play. http://www.passionofchrist.co.uk/taking-part/image-gallery 'Before I went on stage, Charlotte, the professional make-up artist had just prayed with me. I was standing alone, quietly, facing the passing crowds, with my eyes closed. After perhaps five minutes, out of the darkness appeared a group of people and Jesus. He then moved forward closer to me, his face perhaps 1m in front of mine. He was completely calm, calming and reassuring, with gentle eyes. There was a large cross behind His left shoulder. He was there for perhaps just more than one minute, then it was just blank again, and very bright even with my eyes closed because I was facing the setting sun. I am still thinking of this image and this very special moment and constantly questioning the significance of this incredible experience. After shouting out my lines on the cross, I lost my voice completely for one week. During this time I completed a watercolour in my French studio I had been working on for more than a year.'
