Although I am Irish and frequently make work in Ireland I have for the past few years shared a studio for much of the year in Switzerland.All of my recent work was made there.
Work
I work in series but not chronologically...that is I frequently re-visit themes over the years as the impulse arises.I often add to a series after a long break. I find this gives me a new perspective on the work. I like this sense of slow evolution over a long time.I frequently use photographs as a reference for my work, both my own and the photos of friends and family. I also make use of images downloaded from the Internet. Some recent preoccupations include images of conflict, accident or death, especially involving animals or children....the original impetus for this series was a reading of Blake's Songs of Innocence and experience...another series explores the vulnerability of the individual as an object of scrutiny, for instance before the gaze of the camera.
